Symptoms & Error: 


Office application and Adobe application crashes while trying to open a protected document.


To confirm if the issue is because of conflict with windows security settings you can check the event viewer logs for the crash event and you can see payloadrestrictions.dll as the faulting module.


Please follow Section A for office application and Section B for Adobe application.


Section A:


Goto Windows Start --> Look for "Windows Security" -->Choose "App & Browser Control" --> click on Expliot protection setting --> Goto Program setting tab --> Choose Office process exe (for eg. winword.exe) --> and turn off Export Address filtering (EAF). Do it for other office process also (for eg excel.exe & powerpnt.exe).




Section B: Please follow the below steps for Adobe application crashing scenario.



Goto Windows Start --> Look for "Windows Security" -->Choose "App & Browser Control" --> click on Expliot protection setting --> Goto Program setting tab --> ChooseAcroRd32.exe --> and turn off Export Address filtering (EAF).


Go to Windows Start --> Look for "Windows Security" --> Choose "App & Browser Control" -->click on Exploit protection setting --> Go to Program setting tab --> Choose AcroRd32.exe -->edit -->enable Audit only for “Simulate execution (SimExec)” --> Apply.




Note: If the issue still exists kindly go ahead and turn off all the Program Settings for Excel.exe, WinWord.exe, Powerpnt.exe except the "Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)" and click on Apply.
